The unthinkable happened. I never thought it would happen in my garden, but for some reason, it did. I probably am overreacting, but I have achieved the highest (unofficial) gardening award possible (in my own private competition with nature). You know what I’m talking about…
The tree dahlias have bloomed!
It couldn’t have happened any later, either. Last night we had a small amount of frost. Just enough to blacken the leaves of the more tender plants. Still a frost, though. Tonight should see similar temperatures, and I doubt the tree dahlias will make it through both nights intact. It was incredibly fleeting, but totally worth it.
This bunch is looking a little freezer-burned. I wonder what my next garden challenge will be?
