In the constant battle for attention, my baby always prevails over this blog. I still manage to take pictures of the garden, but not as many as I used to. Just a few days ago I managed to snap a few good photos of the garden, and despite a little bit of chilly weather at night, quite a few plants are blooming. I think most everything is just glad to finally be rid of the scorching heat that we’ve had this year.
The brugmansia have not disappointed this year. After I figured out a way to keep the spider mites from destroying them 3/4 of the way through summer, they started rebounding. Running a sprinkler on the leaves every morning did the trick. Now, every few weeks they have a flush of blooms, with more blooms each time.

There is a constant buzz coming from these brugs… from probably 100 honeybees attracted by their incredibly strong scent.

Dahlias are going strong as well. Pinelands Pam looks great in front of cannas and a kaffir lime tree.
Fidalgo Climax
Macalister’s Pride, just about to push out a new one. It just finished a round, so it’ll be a few days before it really gets going again.
AC Rainier
Passiflora ‘Preciosa’ is nearing it’s go-time. This one hasn’t been easy.
The tree dahlias have never been bigger. They are around the 15 foot mark, and have really spread out wider than any previous year. If they bloom, I will have hundreds of blooms for sure. They are massive!
I can’t forget about the bananas, either. They are monster-sized as well. No fruit that I can see.
Very nice! I love the brugs – and fingers crossed that the winter weather holds off until January to give the tree dahlias a chance to bloom 🙂
